Experience 17th-Century Life: Plimoth Patuxet Museums Guide

Plimoth Patuxet Museums (formerly Plimoth Plantation) is a living history museum that brings the 17th century to life. It offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing visitors to step back in time and interact with historical interpreters portraying the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people. The museum consists of several distinct areas, including the 1620 English Village, the Wampanoag Homesite, and the Craft Center, each offering a different perspective on early colonial life. The 1620 English Village is a recreation of the original Plymouth settlement, complete with thatched-roof houses, gardens, and livestock. Historical interpreters, dressed in period clothing, portray the roles of actual Pilgrims, speaking in 17th-century dialect and engaging visitors in conversations about their daily lives. The Wampanoag Homesite offers a glimpse into the lives of the indigenous people who inhabited the region long before the arrival of the Pilgrims. Here, Native interpreters share their history, culture, and traditions. Visitors can participate in a variety of activities, such as helping with chores in the English Village, learning about Wampanoag crafts and traditions, and exploring the museum's exhibits. The museum also offers special events and programs throughout the year, including demonstrations of 17th-century cooking, farming, and crafts. The Plimoth Patuxet Museums provides a powerful and engaging way to learn about the complex history of early colonial America and the interactions between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people. The museum also has a restaurant that serves traditional New England fare.
